Privacy
What this website does with your information, which is as close to nothing as we can manage.
Who we are
Casa da Paderna, Rua da Paderna, 4, 2710-604 Sintra, Portugal. We are the controller of any personal data described here. Write to casadapaderna@gmail.com about anything on this page.
What this site collects
Almost nothing, and nothing that names you. It sets no cookies, keeps nothing on your device and asks you to fill in no forms. It does count visits, which is the one thing worth explaining below.
Counting visits
We use Vercel’s analytics to see how many people come to the site, which pages they read and roughly which country and kind of device they arrive on. It is deliberately the plain sort: no cookies, nothing stored on your device, and no thread that follows you from here to any other website. To tell one visit from another it works from a number your browser sends anyway, mixed with the day’s date and scrambled into something that cannot be turned back into you and is thrown away when the day ends. We do it on the lawful basis of our legitimate interest in knowing whether the website is any use. Alongside it, Vercel’s speed measurements record how quickly pages load on real visits, in the same cookieless way.
What happens anyway
Three more things are worth saying plainly, because they involve other companies.
Our host. The site is served by Vercel, which keeps short-lived technical logs of requests, including IP addresses. That is how any website stays online and defends itself from attack.
Typefaces. The lettering is loaded from Google Fonts. Your browser fetches it from Google, so Google receives your IP address when the page loads.
Maps. The link to find us opens Google Maps. Nothing is sent to Google until you click it.
If you get in touch
When you email or telephone us, we keep what you send so that we can answer you and, if you come to stay, make the arrangements. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in replying to you, plus the performance of a booking once you have made one. We do not sell it, we do not share it with anyone who does not need it and we do not add you to a mailing list.
Booking
Availability and reservations are handled by Beds24, a separate company with its own privacy policy. The calendar now opens inside this site rather than sending you away, but it is still their page in a frame: nothing is fetched from Beds24 until you open it, and once you do, your browser is talking to them directly. What you enter into the calendar is held by them as well as by us.
How long we keep it
Correspondence that comes to nothing is deleted once it is clear nothing will come of it. Records of an actual stay are kept for as long as Portuguese tax and accommodation law requires, and then no longer.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you may ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to restrict or stop using it, or object to our using it. Ask us and we will do it. If we have handled your data badly you may complain to the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados, the Portuguese supervisory authority, at cnpd.pt.
